The coder from the Erzgebirge
The inventor, Ullrich Dähnert, was broke when the Swabian investor Matthias Hohenstein rang his doorbell. Today, the two of them run what is arguably a unique 3D technology company.
Wünschendorf in the Ore Mountains. 30 kilometres south of Chemnitz. All around, mountains growing steeper, forests, a reservoir, cow pastures. 500 metres above sea level, 500 inhabitants, three traffic lights at building sites. Only those who are truly determined come here. Just like Matthias Hohenstein did in the autumn of 2014.
“I’d heard that the company that builds the world’s best 3D screens was based in this village,” recalls Hohenstein, a software developer from Swabia. “So I drove there and had a good look around. But there was nothing there that even remotely resembled a company headquarters.”
